ICS Programme

The shipping industry transports 90% of the world’s trade. It is not without reason therefore that many refer to Shipping as, “the life blood of the world economy”, without which, global trade, the bulk transport of vital raw materials, and the import/export of affordable food and manufactured goods would not be possible. It is intrinsically international, indeed it was the very first global industry.

The international Trade and Shipping Academy (ITS Academy) is happy to announce the re-introduction of its flagship full time course in London for the Professional Qualifying Examinations leading to membership of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. This two year full time programme is designed principally, to prepare candidates for Qualifying Examinations leading to membership of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers(MICs)

The courses adhere to the rules and regulations set out by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and it is the candidates own responsibility to comply with these obligations (visit www.ics.org.uk) for details.

The Professional Qualifying Examinations:
The Professional Qualifying Examinations are the main pathway to membership with the ICS and will provide you with full professional status. To be eligible for membership you will need to complete a total of seven papers. (Four compulsory and three optional). This may be reduced by exemptions if you have other recognised maritime related qualifications.

The Institute Chartered Shipbrokers is unique in being able to award recognition of a professional status that is approved under Royal Charter and is accepted and recognised as a desirable standard of professionalism worldwide.

The courses that make up the Professional Qualifying Examinations develop knowledge and understanding of the shipping industry and in some cases are equivalent to the level required for a Master’s degree programme.

ICS also validates some high standard maritime courses in colleges and universities in both the UK and overseas and, where proof of success in such courses is available, exemptions can be granted for some aspects of the Professional Qualifying Examinations. Success in these examinations qualifies the candidates to apply for membership of ICS.
